From Jennifer Connelly to Casey Neistat, James Milner to Dylan Efron, here are the 9 most notable celebrities who ran the 2026 TCS NYC Marathon and what they were really chasing.

The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon drew over 55,000 finishers on Sunday.

A few hundred of them had green rooms and press agents.

Celebrity marathoning at New York goes back to Alberto Salazar's rock star era.

Today's version is quieter, more charity-driven, and often surprisingly serious. Here are the nine who stood out this year.

The Nine

1. Jennifer Connelly, 55, Actor, Fred's Team

Oscar winner, A Beautiful Mind, married to Paul Bettany. This was her second NYC Marathon in three years, both for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Jennifer Connelly ran her first in 2024 at age 53.

Her training was quiet, consistent, and widely admired by the amateur running community because of its lack of celebrity theatrics.

2. James Milner, 39, Retired Premier League Footballer, James Milner Foundation

500 Premier League appearances. Two Champions League winners medals. Known in English football circles as one of the fittest athletes of his generation.

At 39, Milner is a strong candidate for a sub 3:30, possibly faster. He was running for his own foundation, which funds disadvantaged young people in sport.

3. Dylan Efron, 33, The Traitors and Dancing with the Stars

Younger brother of Zac Efron, lately a Netflix reality TV star. Partnered with New Balance for the race.

Efron trained publicly on Instagram and set a goal of finishing under four hours. He has endurance credentials from obstacle course racing.

The marathon itself is one of six races in the World Marathon Majors series, which has become the mainstream endurance target for celebrity amateurs over the last decade.

4. Casey Neistat, 44, Filmmaker and YouTuber

Casey ran 2:57:41 at the 2025 NYC Marathon. He was back again in 2026 for NYRR Team for Kids.

He is the fastest serial celebrity runner in New York by a comfortable margin.

Neistat trains with a running club in Lower Manhattan and treats New York as a lifestyle more than an event. He is also the celebrity most likely to podcast about his finish time for a week afterward.

5. Tiki Barber, 51, Former New York Giants Running Back

The former Giants running back has been a familiar face on the New York running scene for years.

Barber used professional training camp fitness as a base and built up from there.

For NFL alumni, a marathon finish is often the retirement reset. Barber is one of the better advertisements for it.

6. Darby Allin, 33, AEW Wrestler, KultureCity

A pro wrestler who climbed a mountain in Nepal and now runs a marathon.

Allin is a case study in how the modern celebrity athlete concept has absorbed endurance sport into mainstream entertainment.

7. William Goodge, 32, British Ultrarunner, Stand Up To Cancer

Goodge arrived at the start line of the 2026 NYC Marathon having run 49 marathons in 23 days.

He crossed the Verrazzano looking for his 50th in 24 days.

For context, that is an average of two full marathons per day for over three weeks. The pure physiology of that project is still being argued about in exercise science circles.

8. Joe Amabile, 39, Bachelor in Paradise Alumnus

Amabile ran 3:49:53 at New York in 2025 and returned for 2026 less than three months after undergoing brain surgery.

The 2026 run was for Release Recovery.

His story is a reminder that for many runners, a marathon is the physical declaration that something that could have ended life is instead a chapter.

9. Oz Pearlman, 44, Mentalist and Ultramarathoner

Four time winner of the New Jersey Marathon. Covered 116 miles of Central Park loops in a single day in 2022.

Pearlman is a genuine competitive runner who happens to have a famous side career.

He would have been in a very different pace group than most of this list.

What This Field Says About the Marathon in 2026

Three patterns stand out across these nine.

First, charity-anchored running is now mainstream.

Of these nine, at least six were running for a named cause. Fred's Team, Stand Up To Cancer, Release Recovery and KultureCity dominated the celebrity entries.

Second, the gap between celebrity amateur and competitive age grouper has narrowed.

Casey Neistat is faster than most sub elite club runners. Oz Pearlman would beat most of them outright.

Third, Running Is Now Part of the Celebrity Identity Package

Thirty years ago, if a Hollywood actor ran a marathon, it was a stunt. Today it reads as credibility.

The gear industry noticed. New Balance, Nike and On have all expanded their celebrity brand ambassador rosters around amateur marathon runners.

For readers interested in how everyday public figures approach this distance, see our round up of 10 unexpected politicians who have completed a full marathon.

For first time marathoners inspired by any of these nine, the single biggest pacing lesson is counterintuitive.

We broke down why walking breaks are making marathoners faster, not slower, which is the one thing most celebrity amateurs underuse.

The Bottom Line

The 2026 NYC Marathon celebrity field was not a sideshow.

It was a reasonably serious cross-section of 30 to 55 year old Americans and Brits with public profiles, running for causes, often at times that would embarrass many age group club runners.

That is probably the healthiest state the celebrity marathon has ever been in.
