Britney Spears’ Hilarious Claim of Breaking Usain Bolt’s World Record

January 16, 2025
By

American pop star Britney Spears previously claimed she had broken Usain Bolt's world record for the 100-metre sprint by almost four seconds.

In a bizarre yet entertaining twist, pop icon Britney Spears once claimed she had obliterated Usain Bolt’s 100-meter world record—by an astonishing four seconds.

The internet buzzed with reactions after Spears shared her supposed achievement on Instagram, which was quickly revealed to be a joke gone wrong.

The Record in Question

Jamaican sprinting legend Usain Bolt set the 100-meter world record in 2009 with an unbeatable time of 9.58 seconds at the Berlin World Athletics Championships.

Known for his unmatched speed and charisma, Bolt also holds the world records for the 200 meters and 4x100-meter relay.

With nine Olympic gold medals, Bolt is often regarded as the greatest sprinter of all time.

However, in 2020, Britney Spears jokingly claimed she had shattered Bolt’s record with an unbelievable time of 5.97 seconds. In an Instagram post, the singer wrote:

"Ran my first 5!!!! Getting over your fear of pushing it in the beginning is key... Once I did that I hit 5!!!!! Usually I run 6 or 7... My first try was 9 .... and now I did it whoop !!!!! 100 meter dash," she shared, complete with a playful wink emoji.

Social Media’s Reaction

Fans and skeptics alike flooded social media to react to Spears’ claim. Some joked about her "superhuman" performance, while others created simulations to highlight the sheer impossibility of running that fast.

To put it into perspective, a time of 5.97 seconds would require speed far beyond even the most elite athletes, making it physically impossible.

Usain Bolt himself remained silent on the matter—perhaps knowing the claim was too absurd to warrant a response.

Clearing the Air

After the post gained traction, Spears clarified the situation in a follow-up Instagram post:

"PS …. obviously I was joking about running the 100-meter dash in 5.97 seconds …. the world record is held by Usain Bolt which is 9.58 seconds," she wrote, adding with a touch of humor, "But you better believe I'm coming for the world record."

While the claim was never meant to be taken seriously, it certainly gave the internet a good laugh and reminded everyone of Spears’ playful personality.

A Lighthearted Moment in Athletics

Though Britney Spears may not have broken any sprinting records, her humorous post added a dash of levity to the world of athletics.

It also sparked conversations about just how remarkable Bolt’s achievements truly are.

For now, the title of fastest human remains safe with the Jamaican legend.
