Carbon-plated running shoes have become popular among competitive runners and marathoners in recent years.

Inside the sole, a rigid carbon plate helps push the runner forward with each step, improving efficiency and speed over long distances. Many premium models from major sports brands cost several hundred euros.

Lidl says its trainers are designed to bring that same technology to everyday runners at a much lower price.

The shoes feature an internal carbon fiber plate and a lightweight EVA foam midsole, which is intended to provide cushioning and absorb impact during longer runs.

The launch comes just as the spring running season begins, with many marathons, half marathons, and 10K races scheduled across Ireland in the coming months.

The trainers will be available in several color options. Women can choose between black-pink and white-pink designs, while men can choose black-white or white-orange-black versions.
