Fauja Singh, the legendary 114-year-old marathoner, has passed away in a tragic accident. His inspiring legacy continues to break age barriers and uplift runners around the world.

The global running community is grieving after the passing of Fauja Singh, the beloved "Turbaned Tornado," who died in a road accident on July 14, 2025, in his hometown of Beas Pind, near Jalandhar, Punjab.

Singh, aged 114, was reportedly hit by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the street around 3:30 pm. He later succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital, according to various reports.

Born on April 1, 1911, Fauja Singh didn't take up running until he was 89, but quickly rose to international fame.

He made history by completing the 2011 Toronto Waterfront Marathon at the age of 100, becoming the oldest person ever to run a full marathon. His late start and relentless spirit captured the hearts of millions.

He continued to participate in races until the age of 101, setting numerous records in older age categories along the way.

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria shared his condolences on social media, describing Singh as a "symbol of resilience" whose passing was a profound loss for both Punjab and the world.

Singh had even joined the Governor for the ‘Nasha Mukt – Rangla Punjab’ awareness march, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to inspiring positive change, even at 114.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of Sardar Fauja Singh Ji, the legendary marathon runner and symbol of resilience,” the Governor wrote.

“His legacy will continue to inspire a drug-free Punjab. Om Shanti Om.”

From his modest beginnings in rural India to his status as a global icon, Fauja Singh defied expectations and challenged age norms with every race he ran. His story is immortalized in books, documentaries, and the memories of those he inspired.

Though he is no longer with us, his enduring message that determination knows no age will live on.
