17-Year-Old Brody Chisholm Finishes 12th at Cocodona 250, Emerging as a Rising Ultrarunning Talen

May 19, 2026

At just 17, Brody Chisholm delivered a breakout performance at the 2024 Cocodona 250, placing 12th overall and finishing the brutal 250-mile Arizona traverse in 75:42:42 to become the youngest finisher in race history.

in 2024, Brody Chisholm (17) has finished 12th overall at the Cocodona 250, completing the 250-mile ultramarathon across Arizona in 75 hours, 42 minutes, and 42 seconds. With the result, he became the youngest finisher in the race’s history.

The Cocodona 250 runs from Black Canyon City to Flagstaff and is widely regarded as one of the most demanding trail races in the United States.

Runners face desert heat, steep climbs, high elevation, and technical terrain, with finish times measured in days rather than hours.

Brody started at 5 am and maintained a steady pace despite dealing with stomach issues during the race. He ran much of the final 50 miles.

Although this was only his second ultramarathon, Brody entered the event with years of endurance experience. Alongside his family, he has thru-hiked more than 8,000 miles, completing the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail before finishing high school.

Since 2024 Cocodona, Brody has continued racing, including a second-place finish at Bigfoot.

He regularly shares training sessions and race updates on social media, showing consistent involvement in the sport.

His recent performances point toward a growing focus on competitive ultrarunning and trail events.

Since Brody’s standout performance at Cocodona, the race itself has continued to rise in profile and competitiveness.

In 2025, both course records were broken, with Dan Green winning the men’s race in 58:47:18 and Rachel Entrekin setting a new women’s record of 63:50:55, one of the most talked-about ultrarunning performances of the year.

With more than 300 entrants and increasingly faster finishing times, Cocodona continues to grow in scale and prestige, with the 2026 race scheduled for May 4 to 9.

Los Angeles Marathon organizers are adding a heat-safety option: if race-day temperatures climb too high, runners may stop just after mile 18 and still receive a finisher medal.
