Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge announces he'll run his first-ever marathon in Oceania at the Sydney Marathon this August.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Eliud Kipchoge has announced that he will compete in the Sydney Marathon this August, marking his first marathon in Oceania.

The renowned 40-year-old Kenyan athlete secured consecutive Olympic marathon titles in 2016 and 2020. In 2019, he famously became the first athlete to complete a marathon distance under two hours, clocking 1:59:40 in Vienna, although this achievement wasn't officially recognized due to specialized race conditions.

"I'm thrilled," Kipchoge stated, expressing his enthusiasm about the event.

"Running in Australia presents a fantastic new experience for me. It's not just my debut at the Sydney Marathon, but also my first race ever in Oceania."

Kipchoge's impressive career includes 16 official marathon victories out of 21 races, highlighted by an extraordinary streak of 10 consecutive wins between 2014 and 2019. With a personal best of 2:01:09, he holds the second-fastest official marathon time in history.

Before the Sydney Marathon, Kipchoge is scheduled to compete in the London Marathon in April.
